Target group
A Hygiene Passport is required for many jobs in the food industry. You must have a Hygiene Passport if you work in a food establishment and handle unpackaged, perishable food.
You can obtain it by passing the Finnish Food Authority’s Hygiene Passport test. The certificate must be obtained within three months of starting work in a food establishment.
Training objective and content
The training reviews key areas of food hygiene, including microbes and their living conditions, food poisoning, food legislation, and self-monitoring.
The training reviews the topics required for the Hygiene Passport test, such as microbes and their living conditions, hygienic work practices, and personal hygiene in food service work.
The training prepares participants for the Hygiene Passport test. The training is based on the Finnish Food Authority’s guidelines.

The training is conducted in Finnish. The test alone can also be taken in English.
Schedule
Hygiene Passport training: from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m
Hygiene Passport test: from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Identity verification
- Finnish driver’s license and moped license, Finnish passport, Finnish ID card, Finnish photo ID card
- Foreign ID card, foreign passport
- For information on other acceptable forms of identification, please contact the test supervisor at least one week before the test date
